Jana Gheuens is a Phd Researcher at the Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy at the Brussels School of Governance and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In that capacity, she investigates the degree of shortsightedness of EU climate and energy policy as part of the ‘Evaluating Democratic Governance in Europe’ (EDGE) programme. Additionally, Jana acts as teaching assistant for the advanced MA course ‘Climate and energy governance in the European Union’ and has assisted the ‘Governing the EU’s Climate and Energy Transition in Turbulent Times’ (GOVTRAN project), mainly in the development of a MOOC.
Jana graduated from the University of Ghent, Belgium with a Bachelor in Political Science and a MSc in European Studies. She continued her education with a MA in Global Environmental History at Uppsala University, Sweden. Prior to her PhD, Jana interned at the Belgium Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya where she worked on political and multilateral affairs, and at the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment, and Health where she researched disaster risk reduction and water-security in Small Island Developing States.
