Pietro De Matteis

Adjunct Professor

Pietro De Matteis is Adjunct Professor at the Brussels School of Governance, teaching a course on Public Diplomacy. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and degrees from the European College of Parma and University of Milan-Bicocca. He was an Erasmus at Université Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne and a visiting scholar at Columbia University and Renmin University (China).

For 11 years, he has led the development of EU’s approach to Public & Cultural Diplomacy as programme manager at the European Commission and as Public Diplomacy advisor at the European External Action Service. He also served as Deputy Commissioner General for the EU at World Expo 2020, elected city councillor and civil society organiser.
