Gaia Romeo

PhD Researcher

Gaia Romeo is a PhD candidate in the Centre for Migration, Diversity and Justice of the Brussels School of Governance. Her research focuses on how European and EU countries use the concepts of "safety" and of “safe third country” to deflect asylum protection obligations. Gaia studied Modern and Contemporary History in Rome, Brussels and Aix-en-Provence. Before joining the Centre, Gaia worked on a range of topics including migration, asylum and human rights in the NGO A Buon Diritto in Rome, at the UNHCR Headquarters in Geneva, in the Secretariat of the European Parliament and in the NGO EuroMed Rights in Brussels.
