Frank Hoffmeister

Professor

Prof. Dr. Frank Hoffmeister is a Director for General Affairs and the Chief Legal Officer at European External Action Services (EEAS) and Professor of International Economic Law in the LLM in International and European Law programme of the Brussels School of Governance. He holds a PhD from the University of Heidelberg and worked as an Academic Assistant at the Humboldt-University in Berlin. Since 2001, he has gained vast practical experience in various sections of the European Commission, serving as Cyprus Desk, Member of the Legal Service and Deputy Head of Cabinet of the EU Trade Commissioner and Head of Unit for Trade Defence.

Prof. Hoffmeister teaches international economic law with a focus on investment and trade law. He gives a structured overview of the main principles to protect investment and trade flows as applied in practice. His course is based on many practical examples and in-class debates. Taking the class should enable the student to identify and solve legal issues arising from complex economic situations. Prof. Hoffmeister is constantly publishing on new developments in the field.
