Filipa Figueira

Senior Associate Researcher

Filipa Figueira is an Associate Researcher in the Centre for Digitalisation, Democracy, and Innovation of the Brussels School of Governance. She is also a Lecturer in EU Political Economy at University College London (UCL). She holds a PhD from Utrecht University, a Masters in EU Studies from the College of Europe and an undergraduate degree from the London School of Economics.  

Her research centres on the European Union. Interests include using multi-level governance to assess the optimal allocation of policy competences between the EU and the national level. Her work also examines the legitimacy and effectiveness of EU policymaking, through an interdisciplinary framework combining public policy, political psychology and bounded rationality. She is also interested in populism, including Brexit and populist developments in Central and Eastern Europe.
