FAIRNESS: Implementation of Stockholm's roadmap in cases of terrorism and radicalisation

The FAIRNESS project aims at promoting a balanced harmonization of the Member States’ legal practices in relation to the implementation of several EU Directives (2016/343, 2016/800, 2016/1919, 2013/48/EU) when suspected or accused persons are involved in terror-related crimes or radicalisation. Further, it aims at exploring the coherence between the ‘spirit’ and previsions of the ‘Stockholm’s Roadmap’ contrasted with investigative and preventive practices (including Directive 2014/41/EU, and Council Framework Decisions 2002/584/JHA) involving suspects or accused persons for crimes related to terrorism in the pre-trial stage.

Objectives

  • To promote a balanced harmonisation of the legal practices in relation to the implementation of several EU Directives across the EU Member States whenever suspected or accused persons are involved in terror-related crimes or radicalisation;
  • To explore the coherence between the ‘spirit’ and the provisions of Stockholm’s Roadmap contrasted with investigative and preventive practices involving suspects or accused persons for crimes related to terrorism in the pre-trial stage.

Expected outcomes

  • Improved knowledge, legal harmonisation and capacities on the legislation and practices on the Stockholm Roadmap for suspects and accused persons of terror-related crimes;
  • Strengthened cooperation and exchange of best practices in relation to the rights of persons suspected or accused of terror-related crimes;
  • Improved cooperation between legal authorities with NGOs, media and professional organisations in the field of the rights of persons suspected or accused of terror-related crimes.
