The PhD research of BSoG postdoctoral researcher Laura Westerveen was recently mentioned in a parliamentary question addressed to the Flemish Minister of Civic Integration and Equal Opportunities, Bart Somers. In her PhD research, Laura studied how ethno-racial inequalities in education and employment are represented in Belgian and German policy discourses. Her research shows that Belgian and German policy documents mainly portray ethno-racial inequalities as individual shortcomings of migrants and minorities, while they pay little attention to more structural causes of such inequalities, such as structural racism.
