BSoG MA students visit Council and EEAS

MA students

On Friday 16 February 2024, the Master students of the BSoG visited the European Council/Council of the EU and the EEAS. Their visit of the EEAS included two presentations by EEAS officials, one on The role and political priorities of the European External Action Service, and one on EU Security and Defence and the Strategic Compass. Here’s what our students had to say about this study trip:

On February 16, my classmates and I embarked on a truly exciting and informative experience as we had the unique opportunity to explore the European Council/Council of the EU and the EEAS headquarters. From the guided tour of the European Council/Council of the EU we gained valuable insights into the inner workings of this institution. It was a privilege to be in the same spaces where key political and diplomatic figures make critical decisions that shape the course of our future. The visit at the EEAS proved to be equally exceptional and insightful. We attended two conferences hosted by distinguished speakers which provided the opportunity to delve deep into discussions about the role and political priorities of the EEAS and the EU Strategic Compass. Overall, it has been a remarkable experience that has fuelled our enthusiasm to actively participate in the landscape of international relations.

Visiting the European Union Council and the EEAS was a genuinely eye-opening experience that will undoubtedly linger in my memory for years to come. The opportunity to observe first-hand the hallowed halls where critical discussions and decisions are made was unparalleled. Witnessing the intricate thematics and logistics provided a tangible connection to the abstract concepts we study. At the EEAS, we were briefed about the EU Security Compass for Security and Defence. Its explanation from an experienced EU civil servant allowed for a deeper understanding of the EU's strategic directives and how they are operationalized in real-world scenarios.
Both experiences have profoundly enhanced my comprehension of EU mechanisms and strategies. They have made the abstract more tangible and underscored the significance of our studies at the Brussels School of Governance. These visits have not only enriched my academic knowledge but have also provided a solid foundation for my future aspirations in the international relations sphere.
