Newly appointed Vice-Dean for Research Florian Trauner and reappointed Vice-Dean for Education Sven Van Kerckhoven

The Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) has conducted its first internal elections to choose its two Vice-Deans as well as its staff representatives for the governing boards of its two member institutions (IES and VeCo). The results confirmed Prof. Sven Van Kerckhoven as the Vice-Dean for Education, a position he held already during the past four years. Prof. Florian Trauner was newly elected as the Vice-Dean for Research, thereby succeeding Prof. Alexander Mattelaer who had stepped back from this function. The representatives for the staff are Prof. Trisha Meyer (representative senior academics), Gaia Romeo (representative other academic staff) and Jurgen Smet (representative non-academic personnel).

Another internal appointment saw Prof. Caterina Carta become the new PhD Director at the Brussels School of Governance.

Newly appointed Vice-Dean for Research Florian Trauner commented:

The BSoG research activities have thriven in recent years. We have no less than three ERC grants, and a range of other European or nationally funded projects. I am excited to build upon this basis, which was strongly enabled by the excellent work of my predecessor Alexander Mattelaer. Fully capitalizing on our location in Brussels, the BSoG is and will remain a European hub for excellent academic and applied research.

Caterina Carta, the BSoG’s newly appointed PhD Director, stated:

Our School has a long-standing and highly reputed tradition of excellence in PhD research. In the last couple of years, especially during the toughest years of the pandemic, it has become clear that well-organised, structural guidance is a major success factor in the trajectory of PhD researchers. I will do my utmost in this new role to offer our people exactly that.
