BSoG BA Law students visit EEB

Students in EEB

On Thursday 28 March, the BA in International and European Law community visited the EEB, the European Environmental Bureau. This is an umbrella NGO with no less than 180 member NGOs specialised in environmental issues, spanning across 38 countries, including not only EU member states but also accession and neighbourhood countries. Our students were given a range of different presentations from people working there, fulfilling different functions in the organisation.

Some reflections from participating students:

The visit to the European Environmental Bureau was an enriching experience, as we learned about some topics that perfectly intertwined and complemented those that we are studying in the Sustainable Development Law course. In the EEB, located on the top-floor of a building just steps from the European institutions, the experts gave their insights on what it's like to work for an NGO in Brussels, advocating for the environment and influencing policy formulation. They expanded on some concepts we had already discussed in class, like environmental justice and democracy which reminded us just how connected environmental issues are to social equality and how the environment concerns all of us, everywhere. Overall, I loved the experience, and it sparked my curiosity for how NGOs function and influence policy.

The trip to the EEB was incredibly enlightening and engaging. We had the privilege of hearing from three individuals who provided diverse perspectives on their roles, environmental issues, and more. Personally, I found it captivating, and it provided valuable insights into the realm of environmental law and justice. It was so inspiring that I could envision myself pursuing a career in that field someday. Overall, it was a fantastic opportunity, and I'm grateful that I participated.
