Brussels School of Governance hosts Global Model European Union #GLOBALMEU conference

From 8 to 10 January 2024, the Global Model European Union (#GLOBALMEU) conference was organised at the Brussels School of Governance as a collaboration between colleges and universities around the world.

The primary purpose of GLOBALMEU is to provide a framework for a simulation of a European Council meeting, to better educate students about the European Union while giving them an opportunity to interact between students coming from the US, and EU member and candidate states. Students were assigned roles in member state delegations, as heads of government or ministers, or as members of the Press Corps.

For the purposes of this conference, there were four Council configurations: European Council (Heads of Government-HoGs), Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA), and the Environment Council (ENVI). Participants played their assigned country’s respective ministers in these configurations (e.g.: Head of Government, Foreign Affairs minister, Interior ministers, and the Minister responsible for Environment). In addition to playing a minister in one of the 27 member-states of the European Union, BSoG participants also played as members of the Press Corps (serving as journalists attending the summit meetings and creating the daily newsletter).
