Zarina Ahmad is a PhD scholar at the University of Manchester researching environmental sustainability of individuals from underrepresented groups in society, and a researcher on a Food Justice project, Just FACT in London and an advisor for Women’s Environmental Network.
Working at the Council for Ethnic Minority Voluntary Organisations, Zarina has gained lot of experience working on increasing the participation of ethnic minorities in environmentalism for which she received a place on the Woman’s Hour’s 2020 Our Planet Power List. She has also created spaces for marginalised women’s voices to be heard about climate issues, Climate Sisters who exhibit their creative work at various venues such as the Glasgow Science Centre, the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Zarina’s accolades include recognition by Edinburgh Science Institute as an inspirational woman who has made a significant impact in STEM featuring her in 2021's festival. More recently Zarina received the coveted Emma Goldman Award for her feminist work on climate justice and inequalities. Zarina has a number of board positions including the Scottish Women’s Budget Group, CAST (Centre for Climate Change and Social Transformation), committee member of JRCT’s Sustainable Futures programme and is on the directorate team of Climate X Change.
Paul Tobin is a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in Politics, and Deputy Director of the Manchester Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence, at the University of Manchester.
He specialises in the politics and public policy of climate change within Europe. In particular, Paul has specialised in the pathways to climate leadership and also, in contrast, the processes that enable the dismantling of environmental legislation. Paul is Editor of the Manchester University Press ‘European Politics Series’.
