Connie Hedegaard on the Role of Adaptation in Addressing Climate Change, and the Attention of the European Commission

On an autumn morning in 2021, following a GOVTRAN online event on climate adaptation and resilience, and warming up for the COP26 in Glasgow in Nov 2021, Tim Rayner, Research Fellow at University of East Anglia met with Connie Hedegaard, Chair of the Mission Board on Adaptation to Climate Change including Societal Transformation to hear about where the European  Commission stands with regards to the role of adaptation in tackling climate change, and the design of European climate adaptation policy. As the Chair of the newly established Mission Board on Adaptation to Climate Change including Societal Transformation, and former European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard provides insights into the design of the programme, and the goals of drawing together on-the-ground local solutions and European wide high-impact actions, without shying away from the potential challenges ahead. This interview was conducted for the BSoG led Jean Monnet Network GOVTRAN (Governing the EU’s Climate and Energy Transition in Turbulent Times).
