CSDS organises a first workshop in the framework of the Bridging Allies project

The first workshop in the framework of the ‘Bridging Allies’ project was held digitally on 26 November 2021. This seminar aimed to feed into the emerging debate around NATO’s Strategic Concept, especially on those aspects related to the challenges posed by China’s strategic rise, and the Alliance’s broader engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. The NATO Summit in June 2021 stated that the alliance will ‘seek to further develop relations with our partners across the globe’, noting political dialogue and practical cooperation, particularly with Australia, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Korea to ‘promote cooperative security and support the rules-based international order’. The discussion revolved around the new strategic concept and the basic principles for the Alliance’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, including the way in which NATO could address the challenges presented by the rise of China.
