IES Annual Report 2022 released

2022 was a very fruitful year at the IES regarding new PhD degrees. Diana Potjomkina, Sibel Top, Ernesto Roessing, Jimmy Hendry Nzally, and Yijia Huang all successfully submitted and defended their doctoral thesis. 

IES organised 61 public events and produced 138 publications, and continued to expand and now count 130 staff members.

In 2022, our scholars took part in 175 media appearances. Moreover, the Institute was successful in obtaining externally funded projects. At the end of the year, no less than 61 external projects were conducted by scholars, whereas an additional 29 projects were funded through our own budget. 

The IES’ four research centres produced a substantial volume of qualitative output, including books on Diplomacy in practice, Yearbook of European Security and European Foreign Policy in a Decarbonising World.

In the autumn of 2022, the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy at the IES launched its Japan Chair. This was the first and only Japan Chair in mainland Europe and it is led by Dr. Eva Pejsova.

The Institute’s leading advanced Master programmes deliberated 36 new graduates that have now obtained life membership to its 1300+ alumni group. Effective in September 2022, the Institute for European Studies has refocused and fine-tuned the curriculum of its LLM in International and European Law programme.
