BSoG students participate in Model United Nations Conference in Madrid

From 25 to 30 October 2021, the Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) Model United Nations team (MUN) attended a weeklong conference with 23 undergraduate delegates at the newly open IE Tower in Madrid, Spain. The students engaged in committees simulating the United Nations. Issues such as counterfeit medicinal products and nuclear non-proliferation as well as Covid-19 were addressed in a simulation hosting delegates from all over the world. The delegation was able to engage in this intercultural exchange.

The conference and the BSoG MUN Team are both student-led, while eight students got partially sponsored by the Brussels School of Governance.

Overall, the MUN enabled the students to apply their knowledge of International Law and International Relations in relation to a range of pressing and challenging problems, allowing the application and practice of multilateralism.

Our student Olivia Tamara Korenberg shared her experience at the MUN: “Participating to IEUMUN, a simulation of a governmental debate has been one of the best experiences of my life. Even if it was not my first MUN, this one was different and very enriching as a student majoring in international law. In comparison to most delegates, I had the opportunity to debate in a crisis committee which implies that the participants have to work together in order to solve a real-life issue that has already happened in the past in real conditions. It requires a good balance of creativity, knowledge and of course public speaking skills. The MUN conference also benefited the students by giving us the opportunity to meet students interested in debating from all over the world, for an entire week, we enjoyed the conference time as well as the leisure time during which we could discover the city, have dinner with our delegation, party,… After all the concentration and effort put in the preparation of the IEUMUN, I would definitely say that it was intense, but totally worth it and I would not hesitate one second to urge all students to register to the next MUN!"

Thank you to IE University for hosting this incredible simulation.
