LLM Alumni: Career News

The LLM in International and European law has been an internationally renowned programme for decades, with an alumni network of over 1300 lawyers from 109 countries. The Programme opens fascinating career paths in European and international legal affairs. Below are some examples of our alumni and current or recent positions:

Herbert C. Shelley (‘73) is Partner in Steptoe's Washington DC office and a world-renowned expert in international trade proceedings.

Karam C. Vohrah (’74) was a member of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia and Judge on the Court of Appeal and the High Court.

Charles Hunnicutt (’75) is a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Aviation and International Affairs during the Clinton administration.

Stephen Spinks (’76) is the Managing Partner of Sidley’s Brussels office, specializing in EU competition law.

Irene Souka (’77) 
is the European Commission’s Director General for Human Resources and Security.

Tauno Palotie (’78) is Senior Adviser with Merilampi, a Helsinki law firm specialising in business law.

Ahmad Fairuz bin Dato' Sheikh Abdul Halim (’80) was Chief Justice of Malaysia and the presiding member of the Federal Court, the country’s highest court.

is former Vice-President of the European Patent Office and is a former Member of the Legal Service of the European Commission.

Maria Fe Pangilinan (’85) is Ambassador of the Philippines to Hungary.

Arittha R Wikramanayake (’86) served as Director General of Sri Lanka’s Securities and Exchange Commission.

Guanxi Zheng (’87) is Of Counsel at Dorsey & Whitney’s Seattle office. Previously, he was a Director, Vice President and General Counsel at DAC Financial Management in Hong Kong and Beijing.

Florika Fink-Hooijer (’88)  is Director General at the European Commission's DG Interpretation (SCIC).

Romel Adames (’89) is a former Vice Minister of Foreign Trade and Antitrust Commissioner in Panama.

Astrid Schomaker (’90)  is Director for Global Sustainable Development in the Commission’s DG Environment.

Marie Soveroski (’91) is a lawyer, and the Director of the European Centre for Judges and Lawyers/European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) in Luxembourg/Netherlands. She is also a Senior Lecturer at the European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA).

Chris Foreman (’92) is Senior Director, Legal Affairs, Scandinavia/Baltics and Belgium/Luxembourg at Merck Corporation.

Dusko Lopandic (’93) is a former Ambassador of Serbia to the EU.
