The Brussels School of Governance (BSoG) (www.brussels-school.be) carries out interdisciplinary research, organises fully accredited higher education programmes and delivers a broad range of academic services in various policy-relevant fields, including energy & environment, security & diplomacy, migration & diversity, and digitalisation & democracy. The School is an alliance between the Institute for European Studies (Vrije Universiteit Brussel), which has a long-standing reputation in postgraduate education & research, and Vesalius College, which has a solid undergraduate & graduate education offering.

Function Description:

The Communication Assistant position is a temporary one, to replace a colleague on maternity leave. The position can be filled in either under an ATP contract of fixed duration, or a job student contract, or in the shape of an internship. The position requires a 100% FTE, although candidates who could fill in the position as a 80% FTE will also be considered. The expected start date for this position is 15 January 2022. The expected end date is 31 August 2022. There is some flexibility in both these dates.

As a Communication Assistant you will be a part of the BSoG’s Marcom team, a team consisting of 5 people (2 focusing on communication, 3 on student recruitment). You will perform a diverse range of online and offline communication related tasks about the education (Bachelor, Master, Postgraduate, summer & online programmes), research, and services (events) activities of the BSoG. The Communication Assistant works closely with the Marcom team coordinator and falls under the auspices of the Head of Secretariat of the BSoG.

 

Tasks include:

  • Designing various digital items (promo banners / advertising images / brochures / briefs / reports / etc.) in Indesign and Photoshop, almost on a daily basis.

  • Daily social media management (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, Youtube), mainly through Hootsuite

  • Day-to-day content updates of the BSoG’s websites, mainly in Drupal

  • E-mail marketing & internal and external newsletter campaigns (Mailchimp)

  • Stock monitoring of marketing materials and liaison with suppliers

  • Photography and / or video projects

Profile:

  • You have at least a Bachelor's degree in Communication studies/Marketing/Languages or equivalent experience of at least 2 years in a similar position.

  • You have excellent creative skills and are an experienced user of Indesign and preferably also Photoshop.

  • Creative writing in English is part of your DNA (native or near-native speaker).

  • You have experience in working with social media (as a marketing tool).

  • You have an eagle eye that spots every typo in a brochure, newsletter, website etc.

  • You are IT savvy and are preferably familiar with editing website content.

  • You have a professional approach, you have a great sense of responsibility and you can work independently as well as in a team.

  • You are a good organizer.

  • You are flexible.
