2 vacancies: 1 postdoctoral and 1 predoctoral researcher on international/European climate governance (100%)

Deadline 23-05-2021

The Brussels School of Governance (BSOG) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) invites applications for two full-time researchers on international and/or European climate and energy governance, one at postdoctoral and one at predoctoral level. We aim to fill both positions as soon as possible in 2021. The researchers will form part of the Brussels School’s Centre for Environment, Economy and Energy (3E Centre) and are expected to contribute to two starting multidisciplinary Horizon 2020 projects on international and European climate governance and policy.

The 3E Centre’s contribution to these projects focuses on analysing and developing the international and European institutional and policy frameworks towards climate neutrality in line with the 2015 Paris Agreement and achieving relevant EU targets. Work at the international level will have a focus on further developing a sectoral approach to intergovernmental and transnational governance. At the EU level, the further elaboration of the overarching climate governance framework will be a key emphasis. An important sectoral focus at both levels will be on the governance of the industrial zero-carbon transition.

We expect that at least one of the two researchers will have knowledge of and/or experience with relevant industrial sectors and their low-carbon governance. The exact research focus and contribution of each researcher can to some extent be adapted within the overall team. More information on the Brussels School and its 3E Centre can be found at www.brussels-school.be.

The selected predoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to prepare a PhD on the basis of the project work, if interested.

  • Ability to operate in a multicultural and multidisciplinary research team;
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of other (European) languages is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of/experience with industrial sectors (e.g. steel, cement, chemicals, …) and their governance towards (enabling) achieving climate neutrality will be considered a particular asset.
