In spring 2021, agreement was reached on the European Climate Law, a key component of the European Green Deal to enshrine in legislation the EU’s goal of reaching climate neutrality at the latest by 2050. This panel session will bring together a range of experts to discuss and analyse the outcome from various perspectives.
The event will consider the role of the European Climate Law in governing the EU‘s clima<te and energy transition. It will address questions such as the what value the European Climate Law adds to the existing climate law and policy framework in the EU. How does it look in comparison to similar legislation (national climate acts) in the EU Member States and beyond? How successful is the European Climate Law in filling gaps in current EU climate legislation especially in terms of scientific input, public participation and access to justice?
