On 6 March 2023, EDMO BELUX kicks off a new series of informal gatherings on research topics such as disinformation, hate speech, polarisation, and digitalisation.
During each Lunch Lecture, organised monthly, a guest speaker presents their work in a 30-minute talk. After that, we open the floor for discussion. Lunch Lectures happen online, and they are open to everyone interested in joining. (Registration is required.)
The first edition, under the title “Measuring and defining informational vulnerability: a proposal at the intersection of psychology, political science and media studies”, will take place online on Monday 6 March at 13:00-14:00 CET.
- Guest Speaker Grégoire Lits.
Grégoire is assistant professor in media sociology at the UCLouvain School of Communication and Journalism, where he co-chairs the research activities of the Observatory for Research on Media and Journalism (ORM). His research focuses on the circulation of information in public spaces in times of crisis and on how different social problems evolve over time. His aim is to understand from a sociological perspective how distinct ‘informational spaces’ surround different social problems.
In his Lunch Lecture presentation, Grégoire will present the model developed at ORM to study the infodemic phenomenon related to covid-19, but which could be extended to the study of “informational vulnerability”, i.e. the risk for an individual of adhering to factually false information related to different social problems such as wars or climate change.
