The Brussels Interdisciplinary Research centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM) is welcoming VUB researchers to present their work on migration, minorities and all diversity related themes at the next BIRMM Research Day, which will be held on January 13, from 9 am to 5 pm

Currently, over 100 VUB researchers from 11 disciplines (including political science, law, sociology, criminology, geography, medical sciences, communication sciences, linguistics, psychology and educational sciences, philosophy, and history) are part of BIRMM.

With this one-day event, we want to foster and/or consolidate connections and interactions among VUB researchers who have been contributing to migration and minority studies from different disciplinary angles.

Why participate in the BIRMM Research Day?  We strongly believe in the importance of interdisciplinary cross-fertilization. Discussing your work with researchers from different disciplines will give you new insights and challenge your ideas. Getting to know each other will also help to set up academic collaborations across disciplinary divides. Last but not least, we aim to increase the visibility of your work on migration and minorities in and outside VUB.

What are we up to? A day of presentations, discussions, and conversations. Both in the morning and the afternoon, we will run a couple of sessions with presentations, followed by Q&A and personal feedback of a discussant with expertise in your field.

Who? Everyone working on migration, minorities, and diversity related topics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

What? Presentations can cover anything from finished research projects and papers to preliminary ideas for research and publication projects or project applications. Participants interested in getting a more detailed feedback can submit a short paper (2000 words max) outlining the core questions of the research, the methods, and theoretical and empirical thoughts.

Interested? Send us an abstract of max 150 words by 16 November!

Timeframe

  • Deadline for abstract submission: 16 November
  • Notification of acceptance: 14 December
  • Deadline for paper submission (for interested participants only): 4 January
