BIRMM Research Day

Practical information

Friday 17 December 2021, 10:30-16:00
This event is free of charge, but registration is mandatory.

The Brussels Interdisciplinary Research centre on Migration and Minorities (BIRMM) is welcoming all VUB researchers to present their work on migration, minorities and all diversity related themes at the next BIRMM Research Day, which will be held ONLINE on December 17, from 10.30 am to 4 pm

Currently, over 100 VUB researchers from 11 disciplines (including political science, law, sociology, criminology, geography, medical sciences, communication sciences, linguistics, psychology and educational sciences, philosophy, and history) are part of BIRMM.

With this one-day event, we want to foster and/or consolidate connections and interactions among VUB researchers who have been contributing to migration and minority studies from different disciplinary angles.

Why participate in the BIRMM Research Day?  We strongly believe in the importance of interdisciplinary cross-fertilization. Discussing your work with researchers from different disciplines will give you new insights and challenge your ideas. Getting to know each other will also help to set up academic collaborations across disciplinary divides. Last but not least, we aim to increase the visibility of your work on migration and minorities in and outside VUB. We therefore offer you the possibility to turn your research project or paper into a research poster.

What are we up to? A day of presentations, discussions and conversations. Both in the morning and the afternoon, we will run a couple of sessions with short 5-minute presentations, followed by informal roundtable discussions

Who? Everyone studying migration, minorities and diversity related topics at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. We would like to gather as many researchers as possible, from PhD students and early-stage researchers to postdocs and emeritus professors.

What? Presentations can cover anything from finished research projects and papers to preliminary ideas for research and publication projects or project applications. Therefore, we highly encourage you to also present possible research questions and topics, methods and methodological concerns, or theoretical and empirical thoughts and challenges that you would like to discuss with your peers.
